Food Pantry
First Lutheran's food pantry enables church members and those we serve in the Over-the-Rhine (OTR) community to eat when they do not have food. Though free meals are available in our community everyday at various places, many people who are working or job hunting, ill, have children at home, or have health related special dietary needs are not aided by their meals. Many housed people here have an income that is gone by the time rent and utilities are paid, leaving little to nothing for food, especially at the end of the month. Of course, there are others that are homeless and needing food, unable or unwilling to eat at a shelter or soup kitchen. We at First Lutheran are glad to help people feed themselves. We can do it because of YOU. Because of your caring, people can eat. It is as simple as that. Thanks for trusting us with the sharing of what you give.
All items for our food pantry are donated. It is only through these donations that this food pantry exists, so we always welcome items collected at community food drives or through individual giving.
What types of items are needed? Items that are easy-to-open and transportable are most appreciated (i.e. items with flip-top can openings.) Can openers are a hot commodity. Always appreciated are healthy, easy-to-open and prepare canned or jarred protein, fruits and vegetables, and breakfast items.
If I can donate larger quantities of items, can they be used in your monthly Community Lunch? If you are able to donate larger quantities of food items, we might be able to serve these in our monthly Community Lunch program. Large cans of stew or soup, fruit, applesauce, spaghetti sauce, pasta and vegetables can be incorporated into the approximately 280 lunches we prepare each month.
Drop-off details: Collected donations can be dropped off at First Lutheran . To coordinate a drop-off time, please call the church at 513-421-0065 or contact church member Cindy at cynschrader541@current.net.
